About the Tzaneros Group

Background

The Tzaneoros Group's foundations in the transport and logistics industry can be traced back to the purchase of a transport depot at Lakemba by Steven Tzaneros and his brother Terry. The business started to grow as they expanded their offering beyond transport to include export and import pack and unpack. It was not long before they started to outgrow their facility and in 1987 purchased a small trucking business located in Rozelle Bay, a suburb of Sydney.

In 1988 Smith Bros. secured leasehold land from the Port of Sydney. After obtaining formal approval from Australian Customs Services and Australian Quarantine Inspection Services they developed the site to initially provide warehouse and office space, Steam clean/wash bays, Quarantine Tailgate, and warehousing & external storage of FCL containers. This became the first site in Australia to have all of the facilities under the one roof and pioneered the one-stop-shop concept that they would later implement via the PortGate Precinct.

At this stage their fleet included 40 various trucks, and in 1993 the purchase of another transport increased their fleet by another 20 trucks.

In 1995, after securing 30 acres of leasehold land from the Port of Brisbane, they proceeded to develop the site similar in concept to the Sydney site. The success of this Brisbane site was immediate, with the fleet growing from 5 to 110 trucks.

In 2001 Smith Bros. was sold to P&O, with Smith Bros. having some 235 Trucks (Prime Movers, Table Tops, Vans) 450 Trailers, and 58 Forklifts ranging from 2.5T to 54T Omega at the time of sale.

After remaining as a Director of P&O for three years Steven established of The Tzaneros Group with Mirco Debelak and subsequently developed the PortGate Precinct.
